About Me & This Blog
About Me
Hey! 👋🏿 Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. My name is Candide Uyanze, and I’m passionate about independent and accessible digital media production. I’m a bilingual grad student doing an M.Des in Digital Futures at OCAD University. My previous degree was in Communication with a minor in Digital Humanities.
I've worked and volunteered for several organizations in the arts, media, academic, and non-profit sectors as a communication intern and research assistant. I am now working towards a career as a cultural industry worker and multimedia producer, with the goal of empowering burgeoning BIPOC creatives to tell their own stories.
My current research interests include free, libre, and open source software (FLOSS) for multimedia production, the digital divide, digital humanities, representation in the media, and inclusivity through technology.
In my spare time, I love editing videos, teaching myself digital skills (design, coding, etc.), going to music festivals + concerts, and napping.
About this blog
This blog is a place for me to share my graduate coursework and thesis planning with the public. My hope, dear reader, is that you find something useful, funny, informative, or thought-provoking in this little blog--whether you're looking for technological help on your project, considering going to grad school, or just randomly found this site.
Technology Used
This blog was created using the amazing Publii, a free and open source static site generator and CMS. I'm using the Mercury theme, with Space Grotesk and Work Sans as my fonts. To customize and edit my website's theme, I use Visual Studio Code + Notepad. The site is hosted on Netlify, and I use FormSubmit to manage my forms (but Airform also works).
All the videos that I've produced are uploaded to and embeded from Diode.zone, a PeerTube instance. I typically record my screen using Streamlabs OBS + StreamControl app, or Vokoscreen. I use PowerPoint to create slides on my PC -- that said, I'm trying to move towards OnlyOffice Presentation Editor. If I'm embedding slides to this site, I'll use slides.com. My videos are edited using Kdenlive.
I am currently using Zotero and Logseq to manage my thesis project, but have used TheBrain in the past.
